Theory ClubThe Theory Club (formerly 'Thermo Club') was formed with the following mission statement in mind: "To master rigorous theoretical methods of molecular quantum mechanics and execute high-accuracy and physically insightful chemical applications with these methods." Formats for meetings: RP (Research problems): Roundtable discussion of problems encountered in the ongoing research of the club members. These will be problem-solving sessions in which everyone will benefit from the discussion and resolution of research problems encountered in individual projects. Another component of this format is the general questioning of Dr. Allen about theoretical principles. ST (Special topics workshops): Short series of lectures by Dr. Allen on advanced topics of particular relevance to our research objectives. Examples: Bonding analysis methods, effective core potentials, graduate-level electricity and magnetism, relativistic quantum mechanics, angular momentum theory, Hylleraas methods. LM (literature meeting): Discussion of important and influential papers from research and review journals. The article is passed out a few days in advance, and everyone is expected to have studied the paper. A leader is chosen to facilitate the discussion by asking questions on the material. PP (Psi programming workshop): Discussion of practical issues in the implementation of new theoretical methods in the PSI3 package.
Mathematica scripts: Discussion of useful scripts written in Mathematica. These scripts are made available to group members. |
