Research Interests

Yanfei grew up in Heilongjiang, China. In 2014, he obtained a B.S. in Macromolecule Science from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and joined the Wheeler Group at Texas A&M the same year. Now he is a visiting scholar at CCQC. In his free time he likes basketball, running, and reading detective or fiction books.

Yanfei’s research interests range from organic materials to rational catalyst design. Currently, he is working on developing AARON (An Automatic Reaction Optimizer for New catalysts), which automates the optimization of all transitions state and intermediate structures needed to predict the stereoselectivity of complex asymmetric catalyzed reactions. AARON is being applied to the design of catalysts for the dearomatiztion of naphthols and for an asymmetric Rh-catalyzed hydrogenation. Yanfei has also worked on understanding the solid-state packing of curved polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Yanfei recently returned from an internship at Schrodinger, Inc., where he worked with the Jaguar Development Team.
